This is skilled, technical field inspection and code enforcement work in the City’s Building Department, ensuring compliance with City codes and ordinances, State of Florida Building Codes, and national and local technical standards for workmanship and safety governing the installation, operation, maintenance and alteration of mechanical systems and related equipment in structures of all types throughout the city. Work involves responsibility to ensure regulatory compliance and to determine the existence of substandard or tampered conditions; the review of blueprints and specifications outlining proposed mechanical installation activities for possible regulatory conflict; the issuance of stop work orders on unpermitted construction and substandard mechanical systems and related components; and the recommendation of necessary changes to meet required technical standards. An employee in this class must be able to make sound, well informed recommendations and decisions; to enforce regulations, laws and codes with firmness, tact and impartiality; and to effectively communicate with builders, architects, engineers, contractors and journeymen regarding compliance issues, frequently of a sensitive nature. Employees working in this classification, pursuant to a Labor Agreement, are eligible for additional pay incentives for each State of Florida Inspector and/or Plans Examiner certifications that are maintained for other trades.
Salary: $34.21 - $50.32 Hourly
