Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic healthcare team. In this vital role, you will provide expert nursing care to patients undergoing cancer treatment in the outpatient setting, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being throughout their journey. Your expertise will support multidisciplinary teams in delivering personalized care plans, managing complex symptoms, and educating patients and families about their treatment options. Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to oncology patients, including medication administration, IV infusions, and symptom management.
- Monitor patient vital signs, conduct physical examinations, and assess treatment responses to ensure optimal care outcomes.
- Coordinate with physicians and specialists on treatment plans such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, iv and oral agents.
- Educate patients and their families on disease processes, medication protocols, side effect management, and post-treatment care strategies.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation within electronic health record (EHR) systems, Epic and Intellidose ,ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations including laboratory specimen collection, imaging procedures like CT scans or mammography, and wound suturing when necessary.
- Participate in triage activities for urgent patient needs, providing critical assessments related to oncology.
- Support infection control protocols and aseptic techniques during invasive procedures such as catheterization or ostomy care.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across hospital medicine, hospice & palliative medicine, geriatrics, behavioral health, and long-term care.
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current state registration.
- Proven experience working with oncology patients in hospital or outpatient settings.
- Strong familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic ; experience with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is preferred.
- Knowledge of complex medical procedures including IV insertion, catheter care, and tube feeding.
- Experience working in critical care environments such as ICU or Level I/II trauma centers is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform physical assessments, vital signs monitoring, and medication administration accurately.
- Excellent communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Additional experience in areas such as hospice & palliative medicine, infectious disease care, trauma medicine, or emergency medicine will be considered a plus.
- Demonstrated understanding of HIPAA compliance and medical documentation standards.
- Compassionate approach with the ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations including those with disabilities or undergoing long-term treatments like dialysis or memory care programs.
