American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for an Operating Room position requiring at least 2 years of general surgery experience and prior travel nursing experience.

Work setting is a hospital Operating Room (General OR)

Schedule is a mix of 2x8-hour day shifts (6:45 AM–3:15 PM or 10:45 AM–7:15 PM) and 2x10-hour day shifts, totaling 40 hours per week

On-call required up to 12 hours per week on weekdays (Mon 7 PM – Fri 7 AM) and 12 hours on weekends (Fri 7 PM – Sun 7 PM)

Every other holiday coverage is required

Required skills include general surgery procedures: appendectomy, cholecystectomy, colon resection, inguinal/umbilical hernia repair, laparoscopic-assisted procedures, mastectomy, and partial/total thyroidectomy

Preferred orthopedic skills include arthroscopy, arthrotomy, carpal tunnel release, fracture reduction (open and closed), laminectomy/discectomy, and total joint replacement

Additional skills include infection control, specimen handling/labeling, universal protocol (time-out procedures), code response, and fire safety

Active MD RN license or Compact RN license required

BLS certification required

Minimum 2 years of recent general surgery experience required

Prior travel nursing experience required (minimum of 1 completed travel assignment)

Two supervisory references required, including one from the most recent assignment, supporting at least 2 years of experience in the previous 3 years

A copy of a valid driver's license is required for consideration

Scrubs are provided by the facility

Weekly orientation is held on Mondays

Candidates who previously worked for MedStar must have been separated for a minimum of one year before being considered as a traveler

Local candidates residing within 60 miles of the facility are accepted; local rate differs from travel rate
-
No RTO is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment; RTO must be submitted upfront and cannot be changed, with a maximum of 7 days allowed per 13-week contract

A manager interview is not guaranteed; candidates should be comfortable proceeding without one
