We are seeking a passionate and dedicated German Immersion Teacher to work with mixed-age classes (grades 1–8) and help foster a dynamic, language-rich classroom environment.
Position OverviewThe Elementary & Middle School German Immersion Teacher provides engaging instruction primarily in German to support second language acquisition. Through communicative activities, cultural exploration, and interactive learning experiences, teachers guide students in developing listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Instruction is aligned with the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages and supports students’ linguistic, academic, and cultural development.
Key Responsibilities
Classroom Instruction
- Conduct daily instruction primarily in German to support immersion-based language learning.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons adapted to the students' language skills according to the ACTFL proficiency standards and Can-Do statements.
- Facilitate interactive activities including discussions, games, projects, and collaborative learning experiences.
- Support development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Student Development
- Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Encourage students to actively communicate in German.
- Promote cultural awareness through exploration of German-speaking countries and traditions.
Assessment & Progress Monitoring
- Assess student language development using ACTFL proficiency guidelines.
- Monitor and document student progress in language skills.
- Maintain accurate records aligned with school policies.
Family Communication
- Maintain regular communication with families regarding classroom activities and student progress.
- Meet with parents or guardians to discuss student development.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Work collaboratively with teachers and administrators.
- Participate in staff meetings and school events.
- Engage in ongoing professional development related to language instruction.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in German, Education, or related field
- Advanced or native German proficiency
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card (or ability to obtain)
- CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
Preferred
- Teaching certification or degree in Education
- Experience teaching German as a second language
- Experience in immersion or bilingual education
- Experience working with elementary or middle school students
