Position Overview
The McConnell Arts Center (MAC) seeks an experienced, strategic, and relationship-
driven Director of Development to lead and grow the organization’s fundraising efforts
in close partnership with the Executive Director. This is a senior leadership position
responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive development strategy that
supports the MAC’s mission, programming, and long-term sustainability.
The Director of Development will oversee annual fundraising initiatives, cultivate and
steward donors, manage grant activity, coordinate donor-centered events, and support
volunteer engagement. The ideal candidate is highly organized, personable, creative,
detail-oriented, and energized by working in a dynamic arts environment.
This position works collaboratively with the Executive Director and other staff members
to advance philanthropy and community engagement at the MAC.
Primary Responsibilities
Fundraising & Development
- Implement annual fundraising strategies and goals
- Lead and manage all annual fundraising initiatives and donor campaigns
- Plan and execute two annual fundraising events each year:
o March fundraising gala
o June VIP Breakfast to kick off the Worthington Arts Festival
- Manage four annual direct mail fundraising campaigns
- Conduct ongoing cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and relationship
management of individual donors and major gift prospects
- Coordinate donor communications and acknowledgements
- Maintain accurate donor records and fundraising data
Grants & Institutional Giving
- Write, submit, and manage grant applications and reports in tandem with the
Executive Director
- Maintain grant calendars and reporting deadlines
- Collaborate with program and leadership staff to gather supporting materials and
impact data
Events & Community Engagement
- Attend and support events specifically related to donor cultivation, stewardship,
and fundraising
- Represent the MAC professionally within the community and among supporters
- Coordinate donor hospitality and engagement opportunities
Volunteer Coordination
- Recruit, organize, communicate with, and support volunteers involved in
fundraising and development activities
- Help foster a welcoming and positive volunteer experience
Organizational Collaboration
- Work closely with the Executive Director on strategic fundraising priorities and
relationship management
- Participate in organizational planning and cross-department collaboration
- Contribute creative ideas and solutions to support organizational growth and
sustainability
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of nonprofit development experience
- Demonstrated success with fundraising campaigns and major gift solicitation
- Proven success securing significant philanthropic support
- Minimum of five (5) years of nonprofit work experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional, courteous, conscientious, and collaborative demeanor
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year institution
- Experience working in an arts organization
- Demonstrated affinity for or commitment to the arts
- Membership in, or recent membership in, the Association of Fundraising
Professionals (AFP)
- Completion of AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising or a similar professional
fundraising training program
- Experience working with donor databases and fundraising software
- Creative problem-solving skills and strategic thinking ability

The McConnell Arts Center offers a competitive benefits package, including:

- Approximately 12 paid holidays annually, including a full week closure between
Christmas and New Year’s Day

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $70,000.
Schedule & Start Date
As a community-facing leadership role, this position requires regular evening and
weekend participation in performances, special events, donor cultivation activities, and
community engagements. The MAC embraces flexibility, and team members are
encouraged to adjust their schedules as needed to balance these commitments while
maintaining a workload that is generally consistent with a 40-hour workweek.
The ideal start date is Monday, July 6, 2026; however, flexibility is available for the right
candidate.
