Congregation Shalom is a warm, welcoming, and vibrant community seeking a reliable and service-minded Building Maintenance & Event Setup Technician to support our active synagogue facility.
This is a highly visible, front-facing role where you’ll help create an environment that feels organized, welcoming, and ready for everything from daily activities to meaningful community events. If you enjoy hands-on work, problem-solving, and helping people, this could be a great fit.
What You’ll DoEvent Setup & Support
- Set up and break down rooms for services, meetings, and events (tables, chairs, linens, and equipment)
- Ensure event spaces are clean, organized, and ready on time
- Assist with basic AV setup (microphones, projectors, sound systems)
- Support live events by troubleshooting and responding to real-time needs
- Adapt quickly to last-minute changes with a positive, can-do attitude
Building Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform routine maintenance and light repairs (fixtures, furniture, minor carpentry)
- Handle painting and touch-ups to keep the building looking its best
- Respond quickly to urgent facility issues (spills, leaks, weather-related concerns)
- Proactively identify and report maintenance needs
Cleaning & Facility Upkeep
- Maintain cleanliness of common areas, classrooms, restrooms, and event spaces
- Vacuum, mop, sanitize, and manage waste to keep spaces safe and welcoming
- Assist with seasonal deep cleaning (floors, carpets, windows, kitchens)
Customer Service & Teamwork
- Serve as a friendly, helpful resource for staff, congregants, and guests
- Communicate clearly and respond promptly to requests
- Collaborate with team members to ensure events and operations run smoothly
What We’re Looking For
- Experience in maintenance, facilities, custodial work, or a related field preferred
- Basic knowledge of tools and repair techniques
- Comfort with (or willingness to learn) basic AV equipment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Friendly, dependable, and service-oriented
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, event-driven environment
Schedule
- Full-time with a semi-flexible schedule
- Includes a mix of daytime, evening, and weekend hours based on events
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout the facility
- Ability to lift and move items up to 50 lbs
- Frequent setup of tables, chairs, and event equipment
