Yankee Marina & Boatyard is seeking to fill a year-round position for a proficient Marine Systems Technician.
Position Summary
The Marine Systems Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, installing, and de/commissioning a wide range of marine electrical components and systems across vessels of varying types and sizes. This position requires strong technical knowledge, sound diagnostic and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage projects from initial assessment through completion.
The ideal candidate has a broad understanding of marine systems and is comfortable troubleshooting complex problems in a marine environment. The technician must be able to communicate effectively and professionally with customers, coworkers, and management while completing work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Essential Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair charging and distribution systems
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC systems including: shore power, generators, inverter/chargers, solar panels, and system monitoring
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair batteries and battery management systems
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair navigation and communication equipment and related software
- Install, troubleshoot, and repair all electrical components related to plumbing, water, mechanical, and other vessel's operating systems
- Source parts and materials
- Communicate issues, changes, and potential delays to the appropriate personnel and customers as needed
- Accurately estimate labor, materials, and parts required for projects
- Complete assigned work within established timeframes while maintaining quality and attention to detail
- Document work performed, findings, parts used, and additional work recommended
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area throughout the project
- Work independently when appropriate while also collaborating effectively with mechanics, electricians, riggers, painters, fiberglass technicians, woodworkers, and other marine crew members
- Assist with other yard and vessel-related tasks as needed
Qualifications & Skills
- ABYC and NMEA certification is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working with marine systems
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
- Knowledge of HVAC system layout and operation, plumbing and water systems
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, system documentation, and manufacturer specifications.
- Strong estimating, organizational, and project-management skills.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage projects through completion.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions while recognizing when additional assistance or authorization is required.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Marine technicians work in a demanding environment and must be comfortable working on vessels both in the yard and in the water. The position requires the ability to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Climb ladders and access areas above, below, and within vessels.
- Crawl, crouch, kneel, reach, bend, and work in confined or difficult-to-access spaces.
- Stand and work for extended periods.
- Carry tools, equipment, and materials throughout the work process.
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Maintain awareness of surroundings, equipment, other workers, and changing yard conditions.

The Marine Systems Technician is expected to consistently practice safe work habits, follow established yard procedures, properly use personal protective equipment, and maintain a safe work environment for themselves, coworkers, customers, and vessels.
The successful candidate will take ownership of their work, communicate proactively, keep projects organized and moving forward, and take pride in delivering quality work. The technician must be willing to perform a variety of tasks as needed and contribute to the overall operation of the yard.
