Job Overview
Independence Classical Academy is seeking a passionate and mission-driven 3rd Grade Classroom Teacher for the 2026–27 school year. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated educator who delights in forming young minds and hearts, possesses a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences, and is eager to teach within the framework of a classical, knowledge-rich curriculum. This role will emphasize guiding students through an engaging exploration of history, geography, life and physical sciences, literature and grammar, while nurturing both intellectual curiosity and a deep appreciation for the natural and human world.
Duties
- Deliver engaging, content-rich lessons in all subjects rooted in classical pedagogy, emphasizing wonder, inquiry, and the pursuit of truth.
- Teach history as a narrative of human experience, integrating biographies, primary sources, timelines, and maps to cultivate historical understanding and moral imagination.
- Present science through observation and inquiry, encouraging students to marvel at the order and beauty of the natural world while laying a solid foundation in life, earth, and physical sciences.
- Guide students in developing habits of attention, memorization, narration, and Socratic questioning appropriate to the grammar stage of classical education.
- Integrate cross-curricular connections with literature, geography, art, and moral philosophy to reinforce themes across subjects.
- Foster a classroom culture marked by wonder, virtue, discipline, and joy in learning.
- Collaborate with fellow faculty to support curriculum alignment, school events, and interdisciplinary projects.
- Willingness to lead/mentor students in the area of virtue by embracing the habits in which we expect our scholars to exhibit, both on and off campus.
- Communicate effectively with parents and school leadership regarding student progress, curriculum content, and classroom culture.
- Participate actively in faculty development, including professional learning in classical education, pedagogy, and school mission.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree
- Certification: Valid state teaching certification in Elementary Education Grades 1-6, demonstrated commitment to pursuing classical teaching credentials.
- Experience: Prior teaching experience, especially in a classical or liberal arts setting, is preferred but not required.
- Ability to lead students in reflective dialogue, guided observation, and Socratic discussion.
- Excellent communication, classroom management, and curriculum development skills.
- Willingness to lead/mentor students in the area of virtue by embracing the habits in which we expect our scholars to exhibit, both on and off campus.
- Commitment to the mission of classical education and the formation of students in truth, goodness, and beauty.
