Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare providers in a medical office setting. This role is responsible for assisting with patient care, performing routine clinical tasks, and ensuring efficient daily office operations while maintaining patient confidentiality and a high standard of care.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties

Prepare patients for examinations by taking vital signs, recording medical histories, and documenting chief complaints

Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and minor procedures

Administer injections and medications as directed by the physician

Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic lab tests, and ensure proper handling

Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, wound care, and dressing changes as needed

Manage exam rooms by cleaning, stocking supplies, and maintaining equipment

Ensure compliance with infection control and safety protocols
Administrative Duties

Schedule patient appointments and manage follow-up visits

Verify patient information, insurance, and referrals

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)

Handle phone calls, patient inquiries, and prescription refill requests

Coordinate communication between patients, providers, and external facilities

Assist with billing, coding, or prior authorizations as needed

Education and Experience:
Required

High school diploma or equivalent
-
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience

Equivalent experience is at least 2 years working as a Medical Assistant in a healthcare setting

Knowledge of medical terminology, clinical procedures, and office operations

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Completion of Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), or equivalent certification within 6 months from the date of hire at which time the employee would be re-classified as a Medical Assistant II
Preferred

Previous experience in a physician office or outpatient clinic

Experience using electronic health records (EHR/EMR systems)
