Overview
A Material Handler ensures materials flow efficiently through a facility—from receiving docks to storage areas, production lines, and shipping zones. They support inventory accuracy, safe material movement, and timely delivery of goods.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Loading & Unloading: Move freight from trucks to docks; verify packing slips and inspect materials.
- Material Movement: Transport raw materials, components, and finished goods using forklifts, pallet jacks, or hand trucks.
- Inventory Management: Use RF scanners or IFS system to track item locations, perform cycle counts, and resolve discrepancies.
- Staging & Packaging: Prepare orders for shipment, label goods, and load outbound trucks.
- Documentation: Complete logs, shipping orders, and inventory records.
- Safety Compliance: Follow OSHA protocols, perform equipment inspections, and maintain clean work areas.
· Maintain Production Flow: Material Handlers are responsible for ensuring continuous production by delivering raw materials to workstations and pulling orders for assembly areas using transport tasks and scanning systems. This includes maintaining accurate material movement, supporting inventory traceability, and ensuring materials are available when needed to prevent production interruptions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain one.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks.
- Basic computer/scanner skills for inventory tracking.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and warehouse best practices.
