Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. The ideal candidate will support the daily operations of our clinic by assisting veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing exceptional animal care. This role involves hands-on animal handling, clinical procedures, and administrative support to ensure a smooth and efficient clinic environment. Prior experience in veterinary hospitals, animal husbandry, or kennel work is highly valued, along with a strong understanding of veterinary terminology and pet care practices.
Duties
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and vaccinations as directed by veterinarians
- Support animal husbandry tasks including feeding and maintaining cleanliness of kennels and treatment areas
- Prepare animals for surgery or diagnostic procedures, including setting up equipment and maintaining aseptic techniques (preferred but not required)
- Handle laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and basic testing under supervision
- Help maintain medical records and assist with front desk duties such as scheduling appointments and managing client communications
- Assist with animal catheterization, IV placement, venipuncture, and other clinical procedures with the veterinarian or veterinary technician
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a veterinary hospital or animal care setting is preferred; veterinary assistant or technician experience is highly desirable
- Kennel experience and animal handling skills are essential; familiarity with dog and cat handling and pet care best practices is a plus
- Knowledge of veterinary terminology, animal anatomy, physiology, and aseptic techniques
- Ability to perform animal restraint safely and effectively across various species including dogs and cats
- Experience with medication administration, laboratory procedures, and critical care practices in veterinary settings preferred
- Strong communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- A genuine passion for animal welfare and excellent pet care standards
