The State Fair of Texas seeks a Seasonal Digital Marketing Assistant to support marketing and social media initiatives leading up to and during the 2026 Fair. Responsibilities include monitoring and engaging across social media platforms, conducting social listening, assisting with content creation, scheduling and publishing, editing photos and digital assets, and supporting a variety of marketing projects. Ideal candidates are organized, detail-oriented, and familiar with social media best practices, with experience in digital marketing, communications, photography, graphic design, or related fields.
- Maintain awareness and knowledge of the State Fair of Texas branding;
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and help foster positive online community engagement;
- Conduct social listening to track brand mentions, industry trends, customer feedback, and relevant conversations;
- Track and organize marketing assets, content calendars, and project deliverables;
- Assist with scheduling, publishing, and managing content across social media platforms and other digital channels;
- Edit and optimize photos, graphics, and other digital assets for social media, email marketing, website, and promotional use;
- Stay up to date with trends and current events to inform content;
- Assist in updating and editing copy on BigTex.com to ensure accuracy and consistency;
- Support broader marketing initiatives as needed.
Perform additional related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Proficiency in social media platforms, including Facebook, X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube;
- Experience with social media management, community engagement, and monitoring brand conversations across digital channels;
- Familiarity with social listening, content scheduling, and analytics platforms; experience with Brandwatch is preferred;
- Basic graphic design skills using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or Canva;
- Photography and videography experience, including capturing and editing content;
- Familiarity with website content management systems (WordPress preferred);
- Copywriting and content editing according to AP Style Guidelines;
- Passion for digital marketing, storytelling, and the State Fair of Texas brand;
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages, and engage with audiences in a professional manner that reflects the State Fair of Texas brand;
- Conduct social listening and identify trends, conversations, and opportunities for engagement;
- Write and edit engaging content for social media, email campaigns, and website updates in a tone and voice that aligns with the State Fair of Texas brand;
- Design eye-catching graphics for social media, emails, and marketing materials while following brand guidelines;
- Capture and edit photos and videos for digital content needs;
- Exhibit excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
- Be proactive and reliable in planning and implementation of responsibilities;
- Manage own time, establish schedules, and meet deadlines, including managing multiple projects simultaneously;
- Take direction and fulfill assignments as requested;
- Develop a creative eye for excellent, Fair-quality content;
- Be adaptive to new assignments or responsibilities when necessary;
- Maintain strong organizational skills, be detail-oriented, multi-task, and handle high-stress situations;
- Work all 24 days of the State Fair event, in addition to key special events.
Preferred Education and/or Experience:
- A bachelor's degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Media, Communications, Photo/Video, or a related field, or equivalent work experience;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Experience supporting social media accounts, digital marketing initiatives, community engagement, or marketing communications;
- Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with fairgoers;
- Knowledge of photography and videography skills is helpful;
- Highly proficient computer skills, including knowledge of Excel, Word, and website content management systems (WordPress preferred), some Adobe Creative Suite, the State Fair’s social media scheduling system, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed;
- Prior experience in event marketing, nonprofit organizations, or large-scale public events is a plus.
- Office environment; exposure to computer screens;
- Exposure to a range of environments, including outdoors and all weather conditions, in preparation for the annual State Fair of Texas event.
- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting for prolonged periods of time;
- Driving golf carts outdoors;
- Work consistently requires manual dexterity.
