Major manufacturer is seeking a Chemist to focus on Elemental Analysis to be based near Selkirk, NY for a long-term contract role with a chance for perm. Day shift.
Duties
Will be responsible for conducting various laboratory tasks related to the elemental analysis of polymeric systems. Will work under the direction of senior analytical staff and collaborate with product and process technologists and the manufacturing organization. Will provide critical data needed to advance ongoing research projects and support manufacturing operations.
The successful candidate will be responsible for routine testing utilizing a wide range of techniques, including: Ion chromatography, Inductively coupled plasma spectroscopy, X-ray Fluorescence spectroscopy, Gel Permeation Chromatography, Gas chromatography, as well as other instruments as necessary. The role also includes helping to maintain several instruments and other laboratory equipment and supplies.
Minimum Requirements
· BS/BA degree in chemistry, material science, or related field of study or 5 years of experience in chemical technology-related field
· Demonstrated hands-on experience with at least one of the following techniques (e.g. IC, ICP, XRF)
· Experience developing and validating new analytical methods
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with MS Office
· Ability to safely handle hazardous solvents and other materials (training provided)
· Ability to wear a respirator as needed for waste disposal
Desired Requirements
· Advanced degree in chemistry, material science, or related field of study
· Demonstrated hands-on experience specifically with more than one elemental analysis technique (e.g. IC, ICP, XRF)
· Experience working in an industrial laboratory environment
· Knowledge related to polymers and polymer characterization
Knowledge in basic statistical analysis

Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
