Rewarding Opportunity in Your Community!
Are you passionate about helping youth, meeting new people, and making a difference in your community?
World Heritage Exchange Programs is looking for Area Representatives to help connect international high school exchange students with loving host families and provide support to students and families throughout their exchange experience.
This is a flexible, community-based opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to help bring cultures together.
What Does an Area Representative Do?
World Heritage Area Representatives wear many different hats! Responsibilities may include:
- Publicizing World Heritage within your local community
- Recruiting and screening prospective host families
- Helping match exchange students with welcoming host families
- Conducting host family orientations
- Supporting and mentoring exchange students and their host families throughout the exchange year
- Assisting with questions or concerns that may arise during the student's stay
- Planning and organizing occasional social and recreational activities for exchange students
- Sharing opportunities with local high school students interested in spending an academic year overseas
- Conducting student orientations
You don't need previous experience with student exchange to get started. World Heritage provides training, resources, and ongoing support to help prepare you for your role.
You will also have the support of your World Heritage Area Coordinator throughout the process.
Compensation
I want to be very clear about how compensation works for this position.
Area Representatives are compensated per student placement rather than receiving an hourly wage or regular salary.
Compensation is approximately $750–$850 per student placement, with opportunities to earn additional bonuses.
The number of placements may vary, so this should not be considered a position with guaranteed hours or guaranteed weekly income.
Why Become an Area Representative?
Being an Area Representative gives you the opportunity to experience cultural exchange without leaving your own community.
While exchange students are learning about American life, they also share their own customs, traditions, cultures, and cuisines with the people around them.
Many Area Representatives develop meaningful relationships with their students and host families that continue long after the exchange year has ended.
Most importantly, you have the opportunity to make a lasting difference in a young person's life while helping create greater cultural understanding within your own community.
Training & Support
As a trained Area Representative, you will receive resources and ongoing support from World Heritage.
You will not be doing this alone! Your Area Coordinator will be available to help guide you through recruiting host families, student placements, orientations, student support, and the other responsibilities of your position.
