Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Slitter Operator to join a dynamic team in New Boston, MI. The ideal candidate will have experience operating heavy machinery in a steel processing or manufacturing environment and possess strong attention to detail, quality standards, and workplace safety. This position plays a key role in ensuring customer specifications are met while maintaining efficient production operations.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate the slitting line according to production requirements.
- Verify master coil information including weight, width, mill coil number, and mill heat number.
- Review work orders, specifications, and special instructions provided by the Sales Department.
- Monitor material quality throughout the production process.
- Inspect slit mults before and after processing for gauge, width, burrs, and set gamma requirements.
- Inspect master coil tails before entering the syncrowind tension rolls.
- Create and apply coil identification stickers for finished products.
- Enter production data, actual footage, and inventory locations into the computer system.
- Document observations, discrepancies, and quality-related issues.
- Maintain a safe work environment by identifying and addressing potential hazards.
- Assist with training and onboarding new employees.
- Conduct operational audits as assigned.
- Ensure work instructions are completed, signed off, and kept up to date.
- Serve as the Team Leader for shift operations, ensuring production and quality goals are met.
QualificationsRequired
- Ability to read a tape measure accurately and perform decimal-to-inch conversions.
- General computer skills and experience entering production data.
- Knowledge of steel defects and quality inspection processes.
- Experience operating heavy machinery in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and productivity.
Preferred
- Previous experience as a Slitter Operator or in a similar steel processing role.
- Leadership or team lead experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift throughout the shift.
- Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
