Position Summary:
Reporting to the Area Director, the RSA is responsible for supporting individual(s) with developmental disabilities whose medical needs are complex. The RSA primarily provides assistance to the individuals in the areas of delegated medical treatment, personal care, meal preparation and feeding, lifting, and transferring (when applicable), and most activities of daily living. Responsibilities for all documentation and tracking of medical services for assigned homes. Including developing linkages to the community through recreation planning, transportation, and accompaniment to community-based events.
Working hours: 8:00am-4:00pm M-F (40hrs/wk)
Status: Full-time
Personal Care & Health Support
Provide assistance with hygiene, grooming, toileting, dressing, feeding, mobility, and transfers.
Administer medications and treatments per care plan and assist with medical appointments and follow-up.
Monitor and support individuals’ health needs, including skin integrity and proper attire.
Communicate with families, stakeholders, and care teams; participate in care conferences.
Community Integration
Facilitate access to community and recreational activities, providing transportation when needed.
Promote daily living skills, safety awareness, and independence.
Encourage healthy lifestyles and support individuals in developing social connections.
Financial & Household Management
Assist with personal finances and household petty cash according to policy.
Maintain a clean, safe, and supportive living environment, performing routine housekeeping tasks.
Communication & Documentation
Communicate effectively with individuals, families, and team members using respectful and inclusive methods.
Accurately document care activities, progress, behavior observations, and follow individual plans.
Implement Behavior Support and Person-Centered Plans as directed.
Professionalism
Model respectful, ethical behavior in line with the Arc's values.
Maintain confidentiality and serve as a positive role model for both individuals and staff.
Advocacy: Support individuals in expressing their choices, dreams, goals, and rights.
Certified Nursing Assistant: CNA certification with strong organizational skills in a healthcare setting.
Communication: Actively listen and communicate using each individual’s preferred methods; collaborate with support networks.
Relationship Building: Foster inclusive environments that encourage friendships and meaningful connections.
Valid Maryland CNA license required.
Minimum 1 year of experience in a caregiving or healthcare setting supporting individuals with personal care needs.
Valid Maryland Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, and a clean driving record.
Must complete all required The Arc training programs successfully.
Strong communication and caregiving skills, and ability to perform two-person lifts.
