YOEC is an Orthodox Jewish boys' high school located near Melrose and La Brea in Los Angeles. Our General Studies program runs Monday–Thursday afternoons, following the morning Judaic studies schedule. We're seeking a science teacher to lead our Biology and Chemistry courses.
The Role
This is a teaching-focused position with a lighter workload than a typical school job:
- Teach foundational-level Biology and Chemistry to high school students
- All work happens in the classroom — we do not assign homework, so there is no take-home grading load
- Curriculum is straightforward and covers core concepts
- In-class assessments and demonstrations
- Communicate with administration regarding student progress
What Matters Most to Us
This role is less about advanced science expertise and more about being an effective, commanding presence in the classroom:
- Strong classroom management is the #1 requirement. You must be able to keep a room of teenage boys focused, structured, and on-task during afternoon hours
- High school teaching experience within the past 10 years is required. You know what a high school classroom actually feels like and how to run one
- Solid command of core biology and chemistry concepts
- Teaching credential NOT required
- Comfortable working within the culture and schedule of an Orthodox Jewish school environment
