Part-Time Medical Billing Specialist – 1099 Contractor
Applied Innovative Billing LLC is a growing medical billing company looking for a reliable, detail-oriented person to join our team. This position has the potential to grow into a full-time W-2 role as the company expands.
Starting Pay: $18/hour, with consideration given for experience
Schedule: Minimum 15 hours/week during insurance business hours
Location: Remote – Must be physically located in Michigan or Texas
Duties
- Review claims for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate billing requirements.
- Submit electronic claims and manage billing workflows within EHR/EMR systems.
- Follow up on unpaid, denied, or rejected claims and work to resolve discrepancies.
- Communicate with insurance companies and patients regarding claims, coverage, and patient balances.
- Review documentation and collaborate with providers when additional information or clarification is needed.
- Maintain accurate billing and account records while following HIPAA and privacy requirements.
- Make and receive phone calls with insurance companies and patients as a regular part of the position.
Experience & Requirements
- 3+ years of medical billing/RCM experience preferred, but not required.
- Experience with outpatient physical, occupational, or speech therapy billing is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems; experience with Prompt, TheraOffice, or Jane App is a plus.
- Working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, insurance claims, denials, and revenue cycle processes.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, critical thinking, and professional communication skills.
- Must be comfortable independently researching issues and asking questions when something doesn't make sense.
- Must obtain certification through AMBA or AAPC.
- Professional Liability Insurance and proof of coverage are required.
- Must have a minimum of 15 hours of availability per week between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST, during standard insurance business hours.
