Our Thrift Stores play a vital role in this mission, generating essential revenue to fund NNH programs and providing affordable clothing and household goods to the community.
Position Summary
The Thrift Store Donation Sorter & Furniture Processor is a hands-on, active role vital to keeping our retail operations running smoothly. You will be responsible for receiving, sorting, and processing donated goods, as well as assembling furniture using basic power tools. Additionally, this position helps maintain organized storage areas and acts as a backup passenger helper on our donation truck. Your work directly impacts our ability to fund life-changing community programs.
What You Will Be Doing (Essential Responsibilities)
- Process Donations: Sort through incoming donations to separate sellable items from unsellable merchandise, meeting productivity standards and routing materials for recycling or disposal.
- Assemble & Prepare Furniture: Use basic hand and power tools to repair and assemble donated furniture, ensuring items are safe, sturdy, and ready for the sales floor.
- Merchandise the Store: Place new items onto the sales floor, organizing displays to maintain a clean, orderly, and welcoming shopping environment.
- Provide Customer Service: Greet donors and customers warmly, assist with unloading large donations from vehicles, and help customers load their purchases.
- Maintain Organization: Keep donation processing, storage, and staging areas clean, safe, and efficiently structured.
- Support the Truck Team: Serve as an occasional ride-along passenger helper on the donation box truck, assisting the driver with GPS navigation, loading, and unloading heavy items.
- Track Documentation: Accurately complete donation contribution forms and free item documentation.

- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Essential Functions
- Schedule: Regular and punctual attendance is required during scheduled thrift store hours (Monday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 6:15 p.m.).This role averages 15 hours per week.
- Travel/Driving: No personal driving is required, but this position requires occasionally riding as a passenger in a company box truck to assist with donation pickups. Must be able to provide clear GPS navigation assistance to the driver.
- Equipment/Technology: Proficient in using hand and power tools (drills, screwdrivers, etc.) for furniture assembly. Comfortable using moving equipment such as dollies, carts, and lifting harnesses. Comfortable using a smartphone for schedules, navigation, and text communication.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods and routinely bend, stoop, push, pull, and lift items weighing 50+ pounds. Requires hand/finger dexterity to grip tools and maneuver large items. Visual acuity and hearing sufficient to safely navigate an active loading/store environment. Must be comfortable working indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions handling bulk items that may be dusty or weathered.
