Job Summary:The Part-Time New Day Safety Officer is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for guests, staff, volunteers, and partner agencies at New Day, CPO’s Purpose-driven Day Center for individuals experiencing homelessness. The primary goal is to prevent crises before they occur. Through visibility, relationship-building, and trauma-informed engagement, this position helps create an environment where guests are safe, respected, and connected to services while ensuring the safety of everyone in the facility
Unlike a traditional security position, the New Day Safety Officer serves as a relationship builder and problem solver, utilizing trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and person-centered practices to promote safety while preserving the dignity of every guest.
The New Day Safety Officer works collaboratively with New Day staff, outreach workers, healthcare providers, behavioral health professionals, law enforcement, and community partners to ensure the center remains a safe place for individuals working toward housing stability and self-sufficiency and for staff and partners working on site.
Evaluation: The New Day Director of Operations, following adopted policies of Community Partnership of the Ozarks, evaluates the New Day Safety Officer.
Position Requirements:
- Minimum of High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds essential;
- Training or experience in conflict resolution, de-escalation, social services, or related field; first responder, military, or security experience preferred;
- Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful or crisis situations;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport across diverse populations;
- Must be reliable and punctual;
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment;
- Must demonstrate a professional and friendly manner in dealing with CPO’s staff, partners, clients, and the general public;
- Experience working with vulnerable populations preferred;
- Experience in security, crisis intervention, social services, behavioral health, emergency response, or related field preferred;
- Valid Missouri driver's license required;
- CPR and First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain);
- CPI, Crisis Prevention Intervention, or similar de-escalation training preferred;
- Must demonstrate strong observation and documentation skills;
- Must be able to effectively communicate the mission and work of the Community Partnership of the Ozarks, Inc.
Essential Functions:
- Actively monitor the facility both inside and outside to identify and address potential safety concerns before they escalate;
- Respond to and de-escalate conflicts or crises using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches;
- Coordinate with staff to ensure smooth operations and consistent safety practices;
- Maintain clear and accurate documentation of incidents and safety concerns;
- Provide referrals or connect guests with additional services as appropriate;
- Assist New Day Director of Operations in any other duties, projects, and assignments as needed;
- Participate in CPO’s resource development/fundraising activities;
- Other duties as assigned.
Reporting Structure: The New Day Safety Officer reports to the New Day Director of Operations.
Position Clarification: The position of New Day Safety Officer is a grant-funded position and is based upon funding availability. The job duties are subject to change, based on the funding requirements. This is a non-exempt, part-time position: 20-25 hours per week. Grant funding dictates the pay range for this position.
CPO receives federal grants and contracts and therefore must comply with the Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. Marijuana is considered an illegal drug under federal law, with no exception for medicinal use and is not protected under ADA.
