CPC Scientific works directly with leaders in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries to bring life-changing therapeutics and diagnostics to market ranging from early drug discovery stages through clinical trials to commercial manufacturing.
CPC is seeking to fill a full-time, on-site, entry-level Purchasing Specialist role located in our Rocklin, California office. This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Relocation assistance will not be provided. This role is suitable for new graduates or early-career individuals aiming to build a supply chain & purchasing career within biotech GMP manufacturing. Attention to detail, and organized work habits are key components of the position.
This position supports end-to-end purchasing operations for peptide CDMO production. The individual in this role will assist management in sourcing US and international raw materials, lab supplies, manufacturing equipment, packaging materials and office operational goods. The role covers purchase order creation, vendor communication, delivery tracking, procurement document filing, inventory coordination and supplier documentation support for QA qualification.
This role will collaborate cross-functionally with Manufacturing, QA, QC, Finance, Warehouse and all internal departments to guarantee on-time material supply for peptide synthesis and purification production.
This position will interact with all levels within the organization. Professionalism and maintaining confidentiality are an integral part of the job.
DUTIES:
- Support procurement of raw amino acids, peptide synthesis raw materials, lab consumables, manufacturing chromatography equipment, packaging materials, engineering spare parts and office supplies from approved domestic and international vendors.
- Create purchase requisitions and formal purchase orders, accurately input all PO and invoice data into the company ERP system, and maintain complete, standardized procurement records.
- Track order delivery schedules, communicate shipment status with vendors and internal warehouse/production teams, and follow up delayed shipments proactively.
- Collect vendor quotations, assist supervisors in comparing unit prices, lead times, product specifications and supply stability to optimize procurement cost and delivery efficiency.
- Organize and archive all procurement documents: quotations, vendor qualification files, contracts, delivery receipts and invoice records; sort supplier compliance documents to support QA’s supplier qualification audit.
- Cooperate with warehouse team for goods receiving inspection and timely material warehousing; record receiving data and resolve material shortage or specification mismatch issues.
- Assist regular inventory replenishment analysis, identify potential material stock-out risks, and submit replenishment suggestions to purchasing supervisor.
- Analyze regular procurement data, assist supervisors to optimize logistics and purchasing processes to reduce overall material costs and improve procurement turnover efficiency.
- Learn and strictly abide by company purchasing SOPs, cGMP-related supply management requirements and ERP operation standards through on-the-job training.
- Communicate professionally with vendors regarding order changes, delivery delays, quality complaints and routine procurement inquiries.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of vendor pricing, supplier information, production material consumption data and all internal commercial secrets.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Preferred: Associate’s or higher degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Chemistry, Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related disciplines; recent college graduates are highly encouraged to apply.
- Equivalent education plus relevant internship experience will be considered.
Work Experience:
- 0 to1-year related experience preferred: purchasing assistant, admin support, customer service, warehouse coordination, biotech lab internship or procurement internship.
- Internship experience in manufacturing, biotech or pharmaceutical industry is a plus.
- Prior exposure to GMP, lab or peptide production environment is advantageous but not mandatory.

§ Ability to work in a venue such as an office location, hotel/conference room, etc., with the possibility of working on the weekends when required.
§ Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, turn and use/walk up ladder/stairs, etc., when needed and especially for physical material verification.
- Ability to move between office, laboratory, warehouse and GMP manufacturing areas daily; wear mandatory PPE when entering production zones as needed.
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and concurrent tasks.
Mental Requirements:
§ Ability to comprehend basic knowledge of supply chain, procurement or logistics management.
§ Ability to quickly learn biotech raw material and GMP supply management information.
§ Ability to utilize meticulous, strong data & multi-task sorting and document filing.
§ Ability to work with frequent interruptions, changes in workload priorities, and maintain confidentiality.
§ Ability to utilize excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities and delegate responsibilities while maintaining quality with high accuracy and attention to detail.
§ Ability to be independent, self-motivated, collaborative individual able to work in a fast-paced team environment with tight schedules.
- Ability to utilize basic analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve routine order, delivery and material matching issues.
- Ability to be proficient in MS Office, and master ERP/MRP procurement systems, purchasing SOPs and biotech material specification knowledge.
- Ability to exhibit proficient knowledge and use of English communication skills, e.g., reading, writing and speaking; communicating internally and with overseas vendors.
Travel:
§ Ability to travel domestically by car, up to 10% of time.
§ Valid drivers’ license and insurance required.
