Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Child Development Specialist to support the growth and well-being of children with diverse developmental needs. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in child development, special education, and behavioral health, with a passion for fostering positive outcomes through personalized care and support. As a Child Development Specialist, you will work closely with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams to promote developmental progress, enhance social skills, and ensure a safe, nurturing environment.
Duties
- Provide direct support to children with developmental disabilities, including those with autism spectrum disorder, to promote their physical, emotional, and cognitive development.
- Assist children with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as feeding, grooming, and toileting, ensuring comfort and independence.
- Implement individualized care plans based on assessments and data collection to support each child's unique needs.
- Use behavior management techniques to encourage positive behaviors and reduce challenging behaviors in various settings.
- Facilitate communication using methods such as American Sign Language or other augmentative communication tools when appropriate.
- Support children in home and community settings by providing caregiving services that foster social integration and skill development.
- Document progress accurately through data collection and reporting to inform ongoing care strategies.
- Administer medication as prescribed following established protocols while maintaining compliance with health regulations.
- Collaborate with families, social workers, educators, and healthcare providers to develop comprehensive support plans.
- Drive safely when transporting children to appointments or community activities as part of the care team.

- BA/BS completed required
- 12 Units of Child Development Courses Completed
Skills
- Extensive experience working with children who have developmental disabilities or autism spectrum disorder.
- Strong understanding of special education principles and behavioral health strategies.
- Proficiency in behavior management techniques tailored for children with disabilities.
- Knowledge of home and community care practices that promote independence and quality of life.
- Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with children, families, and team members.
- Ability to assist with ADLs and provide caregiving support in various environments.
- Familiarity with American Sign Language or other alternative communication methods is highly desirable.
- Experience in data collection, progress tracking, and report writing for clinical or educational purposes.
- Valid driver's license and safe driving record for transportation duties.
- Background in social work or related fields is advantageous for holistic child support.
