Job Summary
The Humane Society of Schuyler County is seeking a dedicated animal care professional to work both independently and to collaborate effectively with team members to provide compassionate, high-quality care for dogs and assist with daily operations in a shelter environment. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on animals’ lives while gaining valuable experience in animal care practices. The Humane Society of Schuyler County provides care 365 days a year. This position requires flexibility in schedule and will require availability nights, weekends and holidays.
Animal Care:
- Provide appropriate food and water for shelter animals on a daily basis
- Follow established disease control protocols to clean, disinfect and maintain kennels and general canine areas daily.
- Provide purposeful and compassionate animal handling to reduce stress and disease.
- Assist with animal intake, evaluation and treatment, following ASV protocols.
- Provide appropriate level of daily exercise, socialization and enrichment according to ASV standards.
- Assist during veterinary examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Maintain accurate records of animal health status, treatments, and behaviors using veterinary terminology and documentation standards
- Tranport to veterinary appointments.
Facility Care
- Maintain a clean, orderly and welcoming environment in canine areas and public spaces.
- Perform laundry operations as needed.
- Restock food and supply areas.
- Report equipment problems and supply needs to supervisor.
- Maintain a clean HSSC vehicle
Client Services:
- Cultivate postitive client team and coworker relations through professional couteous and educational interactions.
- Assist clients with adoptions and redemptions ensuring a safe, pleasant experience.
- Complete required intake, adoption and redemption paperwork.
- Practice and encourage humane treatment of all animals.
- Effectively promote HSS mission, services, programs and events.
- Assist with offsite adoptions.
Safety:
- Ensure a safe work environment for staff, public and volunteers, following established safety guidelines
- Use cleaning and disinfecting materials safely and in accordance with directions.
- Report/address any safety concerns that could put a person, an animal or the organization at risk.
Skills
Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated:
- Previous sheltering experience or animal husbandry background with a strong understanding of pet care routines.
- Skill in safe, fear free animal handling techniques.
- The ability to work in a fast-paced environment while adhering to health and safety protocol.
Pay: $16.00 - $17.50 per hour
