Pipefitter IV
Position Overview
As a Pipefitter IV, you'll serve as a master-level trade leader and senior field expert in commercial mechanical service and installation, partnering closely with General Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to develop detailed project plans, resolve complex challenges proactively, and oversee high-profile piping work across wet-side HVAC systems nationwide. With full mastery of piping materials, codes, design, and execution (hydronic heating, chilled water, steam, boilers, chillers, process piping), you'll lead crews on advanced installations/repairs, ensure exceptional safety/quality/compliance, mentor the team, and drive operational efficiency for sustainable, reliable building performance. Our people-first culture celebrates your expertise with advanced leadership opportunities, specialized training, recognition for mentoring excellence, and the profound satisfaction of guiding high-performing teams that deliver outstanding results coast-to-coast.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with General Foreman, Superintendent, and Project Manager to develop project-specific task plans, labor/material/equipment requirements, sequencing, and risk assessments for complex piping service, repair, and installation jobs.
- Perform detailed field surveys, condition assessments, and takeoffs; report findings in writing and recommend proactive solutions to prevent issues from escalating.
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise on-site functions including scheduling, material control, tool/equipment rentals, subcontractor coordination, and daily crew assignments.
- Oversee and direct pipefitting crews daily: delegate tasks based on capabilities, monitor progress, provide daily completion percentages, and prepare weekly reports (safety/toolbox, production, preconstruction, project-specific).
- Conduct thorough jobsite inspections to ensure compliance with piping codes, Modigent standards, manufacturer specifications, and client requirements; participate in system startups, functional testing, commissioning, and closeout coordination with engineers, subcontractors, owners, and vendors.
- Assure full adherence to safety protocols across the crew: lead hazard assessments, enforce PPE usage, document incidents, notify leadership, and implement corrective actions immediately.
- Train and mentor new and existing pipefitters on latest industry practices, codes, safety standards, advanced techniques (welding/brazing, high-pressure systems, hydronic balancing), and quality workmanship to maintain peak performance and continuous improvement.
- Troubleshoot escalated technical issues, customer concerns, and field conflicts; make decisions that support project success, profitability, and client satisfaction.
