About Miami-Dade County
Miami-Dade County (MDC) is the largest county in Florida with approximately 2.7 million residents, renowned for its vibrant culture and economic dynamism. MDC has operated since 1957 under a unique metropolitan system of government known as a “two-tier federation” with a strong Mayor and a 13 Board of County Commissioners. The Board of County Commissioners (BCC) is the legislative body, consisting of 13 members elected from single-member districts. The Commission chooses a chairperson who presides over the BCC and appoints the members of legislative committees. In January 2025, the Miami-Dade County transitioned to include five Constitutional Offices with elected leaders including Sheriff, Clerk of Court and Comptroller, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector and Supervisor of Elections.
