Department Specific Essential Functions (included but are not limited to the following):
- Transcribes pathology dictation for patient reports, letters and other documents needed by the Pathologist and Histology laboratory.
- Answers the department telephone giving accurate information to doctors’ offices, physicians, and patients. Routes calls to the appropriate place.
- Maintains all histology files including requisitions, pathology reports, consultation reports, slides and blocks for the legally required time frame.
- Copies, distributes pathology reports and other documents to appropriate physicians.
- Identifies and packages required blocks/slides to the various consultation laboratories according to FAA regulations for sending biological specimens.
- Maintains and monitors send out logs to ensure that consultation reports are received in a timely manner and that blocks/slides are returned to the histology files.
- Organizes, monitors and distributes pathology supplies in department and for client physician offices, OR, ER and OB.
- Ensures that there is complete insurance information on all outpatient requisitions for proper billing of services.
- Scans outside consultant reports into Meditech.
- Assists with accessioning late pathology specimens into the computer system.
- Routes incoming mail to the appropriate person
- Assures confidentiality of all patient/customer information as per personnel policy 10.10.
- Supports Bartlett Regional Hospital’s strong commitment to the highest standards of business and professional ethics and provides services in proactive compliance with all state and federal laws governing the hospital’s operations
- Maintains educational requirements of hospital and departments.
- Is responsible for courier notification, coordination between entities needing courier services, and resolving any issues related to courier.
- Monitoring and Ordering supplies for Pathology, Histology and Laboratory
- Making and keeping accurate case lists each month of all cancer cases for monthly Tumor Board presentations.
- Typing, printing and distributing follow-up reports from Tumor Board presentations to each physician involved in the case.
- Gathering, maintaining and monitoring data for all Prostate and Colonoscopy exams
- Maintaining Quality Assurance reports
- Monitoring, recording and reporting billing to outside vendors for Medicare patients.
- Monitoring and recording outside vendor billing issues. Rectifying discrepancies between BRH and vendors. Analyze received bills for accuracy ad record CPT codes in Meditech.
- Facilitate appointments between patients and Pathologist’s for procedures done by the Pathologist. Scheduling rooms for procedures.
- In charge of facilitating all Bone Marrow procedures done, whether by Oncologist or Pathologist. (ie schedule room, backup room, nurse for conscious sedation, Histology staff, Pathologist, Oncologist and staff).
- Maintains and monitors a Daily Log of Send Outs, faxes arriving at designated facilities, and the list of cases the Pathologist have yet to sign out to make sure none are over two days past date of service.
