Job Description:
SUMMARY
The Cornhole Coach / Assistant Coach supports the development and implementation of a pilot Special Olympics cornhole program. This is a competitive, inclusive recreational league is designed to promote skill-building, teamwork, and fun for athletes of all abilities. The assistant coach helps plan practices, provides hands-on instruction, and ensures a positive and encouraging environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with setup and facilitation of weekly cornhole practices or meet-ups;

Teach basic rules, throwing techniques, and sportsmanship;

Encourage participation, peer support, and inclusive play;

Monitor athlete safety and well-being during sessions;

Communicate positively with athletes, families, and volunteers;

Help track attendance and provide feedback to the program coordinator;

Ensures equipment is maintained, accounted for, and stored properly after practices.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
The Essential Duties and Responsibilities above represent the most significant duties of this position, but does not exclude other occasional work assignments that would be within the qualifications and responsibility levels of the position. May be required to obtain Van Driver certification.

- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to motivate and inspire athletes to achieve their personal best.

CPR and First Aid certification is a plus.

Patience, enthusiasm, and a passion for working with individuals of all abilities.

Ability to follow Special Olympics policies and promote inclusive values.

Willingness to learn and adapt as the pilot program evolves.

Prior coaching or mentoring experience (preferred but not required).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Previous experience in playing the game of cornhole.

Understanding of how the game works, including set up/tear down, as well as scoring and demonstrating techniques.

Understanding of and experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
