Quality Incoming and In-Process Inspector
Job Summary
The Quality Incoming and In-Process Inspector is responsible for inspecting incoming materials, electronic components, cables, subassemblies, and in-process products to ensure compliance with engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements before release to production. This role helps prevent nonconforming materials from entering the manufacturing process by identifying and addressing quality issues early. By ensuring products are built with conforming materials and verified throughout the manufacturing process, the inspector plays a critical role in delivering products that meet customer expectations for quality, reliability, and performance while supporting compliance with ISO 9001, AS9100, and company quality management procedures.
Key Responsibilities
· Perform incoming inspections of electronic components and materials, including printed circuit boards (PCBs), printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs), connectors, cables, mechanical parts, and other production materials.
· Perform in-process inspections throughout manufacturing to verify products meet quality requirements at designated production stages.
· Verify materials and assemblies comply with engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials (BOMs), work instructions, and inspection plans.
· Conduct visual, dimensional, and functional inspections using approved inspection methods and calibrated measurement equipment.
· Perform sampling inspections in accordance with established acceptance plans (ANSI/ASQ Z1.4/AQL).
· Inspect PCBAs for workmanship in accordance with applicable IPC standards (IPC-A-610 and IPC-A-600).
· Verify component identification, polarity, orientation, solder quality, labeling, and assembly accuracy.
· Review supplier documentation, including Certificates of Conformance (CoCs), test reports, and material certifications.
· Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming materials and products, and initiate Nonconformance Reports (NCRs) as required.
· Record inspection results and maintain accurate quality records in accordance with ISO 9001, AS9100, and company procedures.
· Perform First Article Inspections (FAIs) and complete First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with customer, engineering, and AS9102 requirements.
· Ensure proper handling of electrostatic discharge (ESD)-sensitive devices by following ANSI/ESD S20.20 requirements.
· Communicate quality issues to Quality Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to support timely resolution.
· Assist with investigations related to supplier quality, production defects, and corrective actions.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on inspection effectiveness, supplier quality, and manufacturing quality.
Required Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED.
· Two to five years of experience in incoming, in-process, or quality inspection within a manufacturing environment.
· Experience inspecting electronic components, PCBAs, cable assemblies, or electromechanical assemblies.
· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOMs, and work instructions.
· Basic computer skills for inspection reporting and data entry.
· Ability to use standard inspection and measurement equipment accurately.
Preferred Qualifications
· Technical certificate, associate degree, or formal training in electronics or manufacturing technology.
· IPC-A-610 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) or familiarity with IPC-A-610, IPC/WHMA-A-620 and IPC-A-600 standards.
· Knowledge of ANSI/ESD S20.20 ESD control requirements.
· Experience using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, microscopes, digital multimeters, and other precision inspection equipment.
· Experience working within ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Work is performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment. The position requires prolonged standing or sitting while performing inspections using microscopes, measuring instruments, and other inspection equipment. Frequent use of hand tools and precision measuring devices is required. The role may involve lifting materials weighing up to 30 pounds, moving materials using pallet jacks, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. Compliance with ESD control procedures is required while handling sensitive electronic components.
Pay: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour
