Housing Resource Center – Housing Specialist
Location: Yonkers, New York

Pay: $28 per hour
Position Overview
A nonprofit social service agency in Yonkers, New York, is seeking a dedicated Housing Specialist to join its Housing Program. This position provides a wide range of housing-related services to Westchester County residents, with a focus on homelessness prevention, housing stability, and client self-sufficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess client eligibility for homelessness prevention and other supportive services.
- Assist clients with developing affordable household budgets and individualized self-sufficiency plans.
- Advocate and negotiate with landlords, property managers, building representatives, and other housing providers on behalf of clients.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date client files and ensure proper documentation and archiving.
- Compile case statistics and maintain database spreadsheets and web-based systems, including HMIS.
- Follow up with clients approximately six months after program exit to assess housing stability when necessary.
- Conduct apartment inspections to evaluate habitability and housing conditions.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with court personnel, Department of Social Services (DSS) staff, and other community partner agencies.
- Collaborate with partner agencies to strengthen program effectiveness and help preserve client housing.
- Assist with organizing and facilitating client workshops on topics such as budgeting, fire safety, tenant rights, and other housing-related issues.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Program Supervisor or agency leadership.
Qualifications
- Associate Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- 1–2 years of experience in housing, homelessness prevention, social services, or case management preferred.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills are a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with web-based data management systems, particularly HMIS, preferred.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile preferred.
