HH Dobbins Inc., a leader in apple packing and storage, is seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance and Sanitation Manager to oversee maintenance operations for the packing lines, facilities, controlled atmosphere (CA) storage, and sanitation programs. This role is responsible for leading the maintenance and sanitation teams, ensuring reliable equipment performance, a clean and food-safe environment, and strong support for production and quality objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, schedule, train, and supervise the maintenance team responsible for packing line equipment, refrigeration systems, CA storage systems, and facility infrastructure.
- Lead, schedule, train, and supervise the sanitation team to ensure effective cleaning and sanitizing of packing lines, equipment, common areas, and CA storage spaces in accordance with food safety standards and company procedures.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventive maintenance and sanitation schedules to minimize downtime, support audit readiness, and protect product quality and safety.
- Oversee maintenance and sanitation activities for the controlled atmosphere storage facility, including monitoring equipment performance, environmental conditions, and cleaning protocols.
- Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and warehouse teams to prioritize work orders, resolve equipment and sanitation issues, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage maintenance and sanitation budgets, spare parts inventory, chemicals and supplies, and vendor relationships for equipment, refrigeration, and sanitation services.
- Ensure all maintenance and sanitation work complies with OSHA, FSMA, HACCP, and customer food safety requirements, including documentation, verification, and participation in internal and external audits.
- Troubleshoot and coordinate repairs for mechanical, electrical, and control system issues on automated packing machinery and facility systems.
- Track and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as equipment uptime, unplanned downtime, sanitation nonconformances, and utility usage to drive performance and cost improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering, or related technical field preferred; equivalent technical training and experience will be considered.
- At least 5 years of maintenance experience in food processing, packaging, or cold storage, with exposure to sanitation or food safety programs.
- Knowledge of packing line equipment, conveyors, motors, refrigeration systems, PLCs, and facility utilities.
- Experience managing or closely collaborating with sanitation teams in a food or beverage environment, including understanding of cleaning chemicals, CIP/COP practices, and sanitation SSOPs.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills, with the ability to coach and develop both maintenance and sanitation personnel.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and food safety standards such as FSMA, HACCP, and customer audit schemes.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $125,000.00 per year
