Duties
- Offer peer-led support, mentorship, and encouragement to individuals facing mental health or substance use challenges
- Assist clients in developing coping strategies through motivational interviewing and behavioral health techniques
- Respond effectively to crisis situations using crisis management skills, ensuring safety and stabilization
- Collaborate with clinical teams to coordinate care plans and document progress using electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Provide education on addiction counseling, mental health resources, and community services to promote recovery
- Foster a supportive environment by sharing personal experiences responsibly and promoting hope
- Participate in ongoing training on crisis intervention, behavioral health practices, and social work principles to enhance service delivery
- Provide one-on-one peer support services in the community
- Assist individuals with goal setting, recovery planning, and life skills
- Support clients with appointments, housing, employment, and resources
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with Medicaid standards
- Collaborate with clinical staff and community partners
- Promote self-advocacy, independence, and empowerment
Qualifications
- Lived experience with mental health recovery or substance use recovery is highly valued and considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability in crisis intervention and crisis management techniques
- Knowledge of behavioral health, mental health counseling, addiction counseling, and social work principles
- Strong mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and inspire others toward positive change
- Experience using EHR systems for documentation and case management is preferred
- Excellent communication skills with a compassionate approach to client engagement
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, discretion, and resilience
- Certified Peer Support Specialist (CPSS) in North Carolina
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to document services clearly and professionally

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
