Job Title: Pharmacy Floor Technician
Job Description
The Pharmacy Floor Technician plays a key role in supporting safe and efficient medication dispensing in a long-term care specialty pharmacy environment. Working under the supervision of a pharmacist, this position focuses on accurately picking, labeling, scanning, and preparing prescriptions for final verification, while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements and departmental policies.
Responsibilities

Fill daily drug orders accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner under the supervision of a pharmacist.

Pick medications from shelving and other medication storage areas, including prepack racks, to fulfill prescription orders.

Apply labels to blister cards and scan products to verify accuracy before final pharmacist check.

Alert the pharmacist on duty to any medication or product that does not scan properly or appears inconsistent.

Assist in processing returned drugs and recycle or dispose of medications according to established procedures.

Prepack frequently ordered medications, label, and store them appropriately during low-volume times.

Package materials and products manually to support pharmacy operations.

Maintain designated workstation areas in a clean and organized manner and replenish all required stock and supplies.

Follow all applicable government regulations, including HIPAA, to protect patient privacy and ensure compliance.

Comply with departmental policies regarding safety, attendance, and dress code.

Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required or expected to meet operational needs.

Perform other duties as assigned to support overall pharmacy workflow and patient care.
Essential Skills
-
High school diploma or equivalent.

Active and clear Illinois Pharmacy Technician License issued by the Illinois Board of Pharmacy, maintained in good standing and not set to expire soon.

Active National Pharmacy Technician Certification through PTCB or NHA.

Minimum of 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician.

Ability to work at a moderate, consistent speed while maintaining accuracy.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Proficiency with data entry to support accurate prescription processing.

Ability to sit or stand for 7 to 10 hours per day and work extended hours as needed.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds on occasion.

Finger dexterity to operate office and pharmacy equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Previous pharmacy technician experience in any setting.

Experience working in a closed-door pharmacy environment is preferred but not required.

Exposure to or experience in a long-term care specialty pharmacy setting.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in medication handling.

Reliability in following procedures for medication returns, recycling, and disposal.

Ability to maintain organization and productivity during both high and low-volume periods.
Work Environment
This role is based in a long-term care specialty pharmacy setting with a focus on prescription preparation and packaging rather than direct customer-facing retail work. The standard AM shift runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other weekend scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and overtime, holidays, and additional weekend hours may be required or expected based on operational needs.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $23.00/hr.
