Incumbent serves as Intake Caseworker IV-D for the Bartholomew County Prosecutor, responsible for preparing and maintaining case files, assisting members of the public, and completing a variety of related duties.
DUTIES:
Receives intake packets from enrollees and processes automatic TANF referrals from the Division of Family Resources (DFR) and analyzes packets to ensure all necessary documents are attached. Enters new files into computer system.
Assists Caseworkers, including locating absent parents, researching case court histories, creating case in The Indiana Support Enforcement Tracking System (INSETS) and INTACT, scanning paperwork into INTACT.
Receives transfers from other counties to build and work referred cases.
Interviews custodial parents referred by DFR when absent parent is listed as unknown, explains Prosecutor’s Office involvement, and obtains all information about alleged absent parent to establish case. Monitors and/or sanctions certain cases for non-cooperation custodial parents.
Prepares a variety of IV-D Court documents, such as Appearances, IV-D Court Orders, Motions to Intervene, Petitions for Paternity and/or Support Summons, and proposed Orders, including typing and composing related documents, preparing, copying, and scanning all outgoing mail, and entering data into computer record.
Maintains communication with law enforcement agencies, Deputy Prosecutor, Division of Family and Resources, County Courts and offices, and the public regarding case status, complaints, and compliance inquiries.
Assists Deputy Prosecutor in court hearings, including checking participants in and completing proposed court orders.
Answers telephone and greets office visitors; provides information and assistance, takes messages, schedules appointments, and/or refers callers to appropriate persons or Department.
Explains IV-D procedures, securing parent location and related information, to current and potential clients.
Performs duties of other staff in their absence, or as needed, including assisting on local child support main phone line and assisting receptionist.
Performs related duties as assigned.
I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:
High School Diploma or GED.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Thorough knowledge of IV-D program and standard policies and legal requirements of Prosecutor's Office, with ability to prepare to apply appropriate procedures to assigned duties accordingly.
Knowledge of Bartholomew County courts system and operations, including laws and legal terminology, administrative regulations, and official court policies and practices and ability to maintain daily operations.
Knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and ability to type with speed and accuracy.
Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, such as computer, postal weight machine, telephone, copier, calculator, fax, word processing computer system, printer, and scanner.
Ability to file, post, and mail materials.
Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, other County departments, personnel and officials from other government, social, and court-related agencies, Deputy Prosecutor, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.
Ability to work on several tasks at the same time and work rapidly for long periods often amidst frequent interruptions and under time pressure.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Ability to provide public access to or to maintain confidentiality of all Department information and records according to State requirements.
Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written or oral instructions and present findings in oral or written form.
Ability to occasionally work extended hours.
II. RESPONSIBILITY:
Incumbent performs a variety of public service duties, exercising judgment to accurately prepare case documents, assist members of the public, and assure accurate and timely completion of assigned responsibilities. Incumbent receives prior instruction from Supervisor and errors in work are generally detected through standard operational checks and notification from other agencies. Undetected errors could result in loss of time, inconvenience to other agencies, and substantial embarrassment to the Department. Incumbent's work priorities are determined by the schedule of the Court, the client appointment schedule, amount of mail received, legally defined procedures, and the service needs of the public. Work is reviewed in progress and through direct observation from Supervisor and when requested to assure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable policies and requirements.
III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
Incumbent maintains communication with co-workers, other County departments, personnel and officials from other government, social, and court-related agencies, Deputy Prosecutor, and the public for the purposes of giving and receiving information and rendering service.
Incumbent reports directly to the IV-D Deputy Prosecutor.
IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment, involving sitting/walking at will, sitting for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing less than 25 pounds, bending, close/far vision, keyboarding, handling/grasping objects, speaking clearly, and hearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may be exposed to irate/difficult persons.
Incumbent occasionally works extended hours.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35,000.00 - $38,000.00 per year
