Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, a comprehensive understanding of medical office operations, and a commitment to providing exceptional patient service. This role involves managing front desk responsibilities, coordinating appointments, and supporting clinical staff to ensure smooth clinic operations. The Medical Receptionist will serve as the first point of contact for patients, exemplifying professionalism, efficiency, and compassion in all interactions.
Duties
- Greet patients warmly and professionally, ensuring a positive first impression while managing multi-line phone systems with courteous phone etiquette.
- Schedule patient appointments accurately using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, or eClinicalWorks, and coordinate with clinical staff for optimal clinic flow.
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification procedures utilizing systems like Athenahealth and other health information management platforms.
- Collect and process payments, perform medical collections when necessary, and manage billing tasks aligned with medical billing standards including CPT coding and ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9).
- Maintain accurate medical records by reviewing documentation for completeness and ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Assist patients with intake procedures, including updating personal information, explaining clinic policies, and providing necessary forms.
- Manage administrative support tasks such as filing, data entry, maintaining medical records, and supporting office management activities to ensure efficient clinic operations.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Medical Receptionist or in a similar medical office administrative role within clinics or healthcare settings.
- Familiarity with EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Dentrix, Eaglesoft, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of health insurance processes including verification procedures for Medicare and private insurers.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and documentation review practices.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing accuracy (10 key typing).
- Exceptional customer service skills combined with professional phone etiquette and effective communication abilities.
- Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse patient populations effectively.
- Prior clinic or dental office experience is preferred; familiarity with dental terminology and dental office management is a plus.
- Ability to handle sensitive information discreetly while adhering to HIPAA guidelines and clinical confidentiality policies.
