Educational and Experience Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. No experience required. Experience in admissions, student recruitment, enrollment services, student affairs, sales, marketing, or a related area is preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serves as a home-based regional representative of Sam Houston State University responsible for managing the Dallas/Fort Worth recruitment territory and guiding prospective students from initial inquiry through enrollment. Develops relationships with students, families, schools, counselors, and community partners while implementing data-informed recruitment and communication strategies. Supports the University’s enrollment goals through effective territory management, outreach, student engagement, and collaboration with internal and external partners.
Primary Responsibilities
Develops and implements a comprehensive recruitment plan for the assigned geographic territory in alignment with University enrollment goals. Plans and conducts recruitment travel, presentations, high school visits, community college visits, college fairs, community events, individual appointments, virtual programs, and other outreach activities. Builds and maintains relationships with school administrators, counselors, teachers, community college personnel, community-based organizations, alumni, and other regional partners. Provides prospective students and families with information regarding admission requirements, application procedures, academic programs, scholarships, financial aid, orientation, housing, and student life. Reviews assigned undergraduate applications and makes admission decisions in accordance with University policies and procedures. Communicates proactively with prospective and admitted students through telephone calls, email, text messaging, presentations, and CRM communication campaigns. Conducts individual and group appointments to help students and families understand the admissions process and complete required enrollment steps. Maintains accurate records of student interactions, recruitment activities, travel, and event outcomes within the University’s CRM and other enrollment systems. Monitors territory activity, application progression, enrollment funnel performance, and other key performance indicators. Adjusts recruitment strategies as needed to support enrollment goals. Assists with the planning and implementation of regional recruitment and yield events, admitted student receptions, counselor programs, campus visit programs, Preview Days, Saturday@Sam, and other admissions events. Collaborates with academic colleges and campus departments to support recruitment, yield, and student enrollment initiatives. Provides recommendations for improving recruitment strategies, regional programming, student communications, and the effectiveness of recruitment activities. Represents Sam Houston State University professionally and provides responsive, student-centered service. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications
Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with students, families, school personnel, community college partners, University departments, alumni, and community organizations. Must possess strong organizational and time-management skills and be able to work independently with limited day-to-day supervision while managing a geographically assigned recruitment territory. The ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish is preferred.
The position requires extensive independent travel during peak recruitment periods and additional travel throughout the year. Evening and weekend work may be required. Because driving is an essential function of the position, the selected candidate must possess a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain a driving record acceptable to the University’s insurance carrier. A driving record check will be conducted as part of the hiring process.
The position’s headquarters will be the employee’s residence within the Dallas/Fort Worth Region region. Although assigned to this region, the incumbent may be required to report to another SHSU campus or be reassigned to a different region based on University needs, coverage requirements, or strategic initiatives.
