The purpose of this position is to serve as an animal care assistant, which involves but is not limited to maintaining the constant cleanliness of the hospital, grounds, cages and proper feeding and care of all hospitalized patients. This position requires a practical knowledge of hospital organization and services, the basic rules and regulations of patient treatment and care. Experience is welcome but we do provide on the job training. Candidate is expected to carry up to 50 pounds and will be standing for the majority of their shifts.
Other Daily Duties:
- Clean and sanitize all cages, runs, wards, and related areas
- Feeds each animal as prescribed by the attending veterinarian
- Recognizes and notifies doctor or technical staff of any unusual condition or abnormal behavior of any hospitalized animal
- Assists doctors, technicians and assistants with animal restraint for treatments and medications
- Responsible for safe walkways and entranceways by removal of ice and snow in winter and sweeping away debris during other seasons
- Picking up trash and stool material from the hospital grounds
- Removal of trash and recyclables from the hospital to proper receptacles
Shifts that applicants must be able to cover are Monday 4:30-8:30pm, Thursday 7:30am-7pm, Friday 7:30am-5pm, and some Saturdays 7:30am-12:30pm.
