Furniture Delivery Driver – Independent Contractor (1099)
Location: Brandon, FL
Compensation: Hourly based on experience
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday
We are seeking a dependable and professional Furniture Delivery Driver/Contractor to complete residential and commercial furniture deliveries throughout the local area. This is an independent contractor opportunity for someone experienced with driving delivery vehicles, handling furniture safely, and providing excellent customer service.
A 26-foot box truck is provided for completing assigned delivery routes. A qualified two-person delivery team is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Pick up, transport, and deliver furniture to residential and commercial customers.
- Safely operate the provided 26-foot box truck.
- Safely load, secure, unload, and carry furniture and related merchandise.
- Inspect merchandise before and after delivery and immediately report any damage or discrepancies.
- Protect customers’ homes, flooring, walls, doorways, and property during deliveries.
- Follow delivery instructions and communicate professionally with customers and dispatch.
- Obtain required delivery confirmations, photographs, signatures, and documentation.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance and provide courteous customer service.
- Complete basic furniture assembly or placement when required.
- Follow all applicable traffic laws, vehicle-safety requirements, and DOT regulations.
- Maintain all licenses, medical certifications, insurance, and other credentials required for the services performed.
Minimum Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years old.
- Valid Florida driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Current DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate issued by a certified medical examiner.
- Experience safely operating a 26-foot box truck.
- Ability to pass a motor vehicle record review and any applicable background screening.
- Previous furniture, appliance, moving, or final-mile delivery experience is preferred.
- Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, and maneuver furniture weighing up to 100 pounds, with assistance when appropriate.
- Ability to climb stairs, use hand trucks and moving equipment, and work in Florida weather conditions.
- Smartphone with reliable cellular service and the ability to use delivery applications.
- Strong communication, organization, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
- Dependable transportation to the designated pickup or distribution location.
- Ability to work independently and complete accepted routes within required delivery windows.
Team Requirements
- A two-person delivery team is preferred.
- Both team members must be physically capable of safely handling and maneuvering furniture.
- Team members must work professionally and respectfully inside customers’ homes and businesses.
- The driver must meet all licensing, motor vehicle record, and DOT medical-card requirements.
- Any helper must meet applicable background, safety, and company requirements.
Independent Contractor Requirements
The selected contractor will perform services as an independent business and will receive a Form 1099-NEC when required by law. The contractor is responsible for:
- Paying all applicable federal, state, and self-employment taxes.
- Maintaining required licenses, certifications, and business documentation.
- Maintaining any required automobile, general liability, occupational accident, or other applicable insurance.
- Providing any personal tools, equipment, or qualified helpers required under the independent contractor agreement.
- Maintaining a current DOT medical card when required for the vehicle and type of operation.
- Managing the methods and means used to complete accepted delivery assignments, subject to customer requirements, delivery windows, safety standards, and the terms of the contractor agreement.
A 26-foot box truck will be provided for assigned routes. Contractors are responsible for operating and caring for the vehicle in accordance with all safety requirements and the terms of the independent contractor agreement.
This opportunity does not include employee benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, unemployment benefits, or workers’ compensation coverage unless specifically required by law or stated in a written agreement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Established two-person furniture-delivery team.
- Furniture or appliance delivery experience.
- Experience driving a 26-foot box truck.
- Knowledge of proper load securement and furniture-protection techniques.
- Experience using hand trucks, appliance dollies, moving blankets, straps, and basic assembly tools.
- Strong customer-service record.
Physical Requirements
Contractors must be able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, lift, and carry merchandise throughout the delivery day. Deliveries may involve oversized or heavy furniture and may take place in homes or buildings without elevator access.
