2. Position Summary
The Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will deliver comprehensive primary care to children from birth through young adulthood (0-18 years). Working under a Prescriptive Authority Agreement with a supervising physician, the APP will perform well-child exams, diagnose and treat acute and chronic illnesses, and provide health education to families. This role is vital in addressing health disparities in the Lewisville community and requires a provider who is culturally competent, empathetic, and efficient.
3. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Care:
- Comprehensive Assessment: Conduct age-appropriate physical exams, well-child checks (following Texas Health Steps guidelines), and sports physicals.
- Diagnosis & Management: Diagnose and treat common pediatric acute illnesses (otitis media, strep pharyngitis, URI, etc.) and manage chronic conditions (asthma, eczema, ADHD, obesity) within the scope of practice.
- Prescribing: Prescribe medications and treatments in accordance with Texas laws and the Prescriptive Authority Agreement.
- Prevention: Administer immunizations according to CDC/ACIP schedules and provide anticipatory guidance on nutrition, development, safety, and behavioral health.
- Procedures: Perform minor office procedures (e.g., incision and drainage, simple suturing, foreign body removal) as comfortably.
Care Coordination & Education:
- Patient Education: Empower parents and guardians with clear education regarding disease prevention, medication adherence, and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Referrals: Coordinate referrals to specialists and community resources (e.g., WIC, ECI) for patients with complex medical or social needs.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and billing standards.
Professional & Collaborative Duties:
- Collaborate with the supervising physician for complex cases and participate in monthly quality assurance meetings as required by Texas Medical Board/Board of Nursing regulations.
- Participate in community outreach events and health fairs in the Lewisville area.
- Maintain active certifications and stay current with pediatric evidence-based practices.
4. Qualifications
Education:
- Nurse Practitioner: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing with a focus on Pediatrics (PNP-PC) or Family (FNP) with strong pediatric experience.
- Physician Assistant: Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licensure & Certification:
- Current, unrestricted license to practice in the State of Texas (APRN or PA-C).
- Board Certification (PNCB/ANCC for NPs; NCCPA for PAs).
- Current Texas DPS and DEA registration.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of clinical experience in pediatrics preferred.
- Experience working in a community health center, FQHC, or with underserved populations is highly desirable.
Skills:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) is strongly preferred due to the demographics of the Lewisville area.
- Proficiency with EMR systems
- Strong understanding of Texas Health Steps (EPSDT) requirements.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $115,000.00 - $140,000.00 per year
