Registered Nurse / Licensed Practical Nurse
Providence House is seeking a compassionate and dependable Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to provide nursing care to individuals in the early stages of substance use recovery.
The nurse will support clients’ medical needs, administer medications, complete required assessments, coordinate with healthcare providers, and educate clients, families, and staff on substance use, prevention, medication management, and healthy living.
The ideal candidate is a responsible, well-trained nursing professional who can provide high-quality care with minimal supervision. This individual must be compassionate, patient, emotionally resilient, inclusive, organized, and committed to consistently following clinical, health, and safety requirements.
Responsibilities
· Monitor clients’ medical conditions and assess their needs to provide safe and appropriate nursing care.
· Observe, identify, and document clients’ symptoms and promptly communicate concerns to the prescribing provider or physician.
· Collaborate with providers, clinical staff, and other members of the treatment team to support individualized care plans.
· Complete routine nursing assessments and medical duties, including:
o Nursing intake assessments
o Vital signs
o CIWA-Ar assessments
o COWS assessments
o Medication reconciliation
o Ongoing health monitoring
· Enter complete, accurate, and timely documentation into each client’s medical record.
· Enter and maintain medication orders in the Medication Administration Record.
· Administer medications and treatments in accordance with provider orders, facility policies, and applicable nursing standards.
· Maintain accurate medication inventory and follow all procedures related to controlled substances, medication storage, medication counts, and disposal.
· Provide nursing support during medical, behavioral health, or substance-related crisis situations.
· Identify changes in a client’s condition and determine when additional medical evaluation or emergency intervention is necessary.
· Promote a supportive, respectful, and recovery-oriented environment for clients.
· Educate clients and families regarding medications, substance use, withdrawal symptoms, prevention, wellness, and healthy habits.
· Provide ongoing education and training to staff regarding medications, health concerns, infection control, and emergency response procedures.
· Maintain compliance with confidentiality, infection control, health, safety, and documentation requirements.
· Participate in staff meetings, trainings, educational workshops, and professional development opportunities.
· Perform other nursing duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
· Current, unrestricted RN, LPN, or LVN license.
· Current North Dakota nursing license or eligibility for North Dakota licensure.
· Minimum of one year of nursing experience.
· Knowledge of nursing care methods, medication administration, and clinical procedures.
· Experience with substance use treatment, behavioral health, withdrawal management, or crisis care is preferred.
· Familiarity with CIWA-Ar and COWS assessments is preferred.
· Knowledge of infection control, sanitation, decontamination, and workplace health and safety requirements.
· Strong clinical judgment and problem-solving skills.
· Excellent organizational, documentation, and time-management abilities.
· Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and prioritize urgent client needs.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
· Compassionate, patient, dependable, and emotionally resilient.
· Ability to maintain professional boundaries and protect client confidentiality.
· Ability to work independently with appropriate clinical oversight.
· Basic Life Support certification is preferred.
