HR Generalist
POSITION DETAILS
Brooklyn College is seeking applications for the position of HR Generalist. Reporting to the Deputy Director, the HR Generalist will provide professional support throughout the HR lifecycle, including benefits, time and leave, HRIS, workers' compensation, leaves of absence, recordkeeping, and other general HR administrative needs.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview, typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Responsible for the administration of various human resources functions; partners with management in the implementation and communication of HR policies and procedures.
Researches and responds to questions from faculty and staff, ensuring timely and accurate responses.
Administers activities related to workers' compensation and leaves of absence.
Develops and facilitates individual and group HR-related workshops and informational sessions, such as new hire onboarding and offboarding, retirement planning, eligibility, time and leave procedures, and other HR topics.
Provides benefits-related information to employees regarding benefit program changes and updates, annual open enrollment, and benefit election options. Participates in initiatives to educate the campus community about benefits and leave options.
Serves as a liaison with insurance vendors.
Assists with maintaining the data integrity of employee records and provides support for related auditing activities.
Processes HR actions in CUNYfirst, including Position Management, Talent Acquisition Management (TAM), and Workforce Administration.
Maintains an in-depth understanding of CUNY rules and regulations, relevant laws and guidelines, collective bargaining agreements, and College policies, and applies them to areas of responsibility.
Assists the Deputy Director with special projects and performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
Excellent customer service and interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft, or another HRIS.
Demonstrated expertise and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis, spreadsheet functions, pivot tables, and management of large datasets.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality, safeguard employee information, and handle sensitive information with discretion.
Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask effectively while maintaining accuracy.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Administers various Human Resources functions and programs for one or more employee group(s) exercising discretion and independent judgment.
Oversees two or more human resources functions for an employee group, such as, but not limited to, staffing, recruitment, employee relations, appointment administration, compensation, human resource information systems (HRIS), training and development, benefits, and/or administration of HR policies, procedures, and programs.
Ensures human resources functions, programs, and actions are in compliance with university rules and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, employment laws, and college policies and procedures.
Interprets and provides professional counsel and advice to employees and managers on HR programs and policies, CUNY rules, collective bargaining agreements, and applicable employment laws. Researches and resolves multifaceted human resources issues.
Recommends new approaches, best practices, policies, and systems to improve office efficiency and services provided.
Performs related duties as assigned.

$86,741 - $94,909; Salary commensurate with education and experience.
