The City of Coppell is seeking a Senior Accountant who is energized by complex accounting challenges and inspired by the opportunity to serve others. As a key member of our Strategic Financial Engagement team, you'll lead advanced governmental accounting, financial reporting, and technical accounting initiatives, supporting the City's month-end and year-end close, Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), audit preparation, GASB implementation, grant accounting, and major revenue analysis. Schedule Commitment
Regular attendance is an essential job function. This position generally works an 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule, Monday through Friday. There will be times when work outside the normal schedule may be necessary, including during month-end close, year-end close, audit preparation, ACFR preparation, budget support, grant reporting deadlines, or other peak periods.
Pay Plan
This opportunity is exempt and on Pay Grade #20. The full Pay Grade Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the grade. Salary determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity.

Experience
Required
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
-
3+ years of progressively responsible accounting, finance, audit, or closely related experience.
-
Experience with governmental accounting, fund accounting, public-sector audit, grants, capital assets, revenue accounting, financial reporting, or a comparable complex accounting environment.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Preferred
-
CPA, CGFO, CPFO, CGFM, or CPA candidate status is preferred. If not already certified, employee must obtain CGFO within 2 years of employment, with City support for approved training and exam costs, subject to City policy.

ACFR preparation or audit support experience.

Grant accounting, SEFA, Single Audit, debt, revenue accounting, capital assets, or economic development agreement experience.

Supervisory, lead-worker, mentoring, or project leadership experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge

Strong working knowledge of accounting principles, governmental accounting, fund accounting, and internal controls.

Working knowledge of municipal government operations, City policies, procedures, ordinances, and administrative processes.

Knowledge of GASB standards and the ability to research and apply accounting guidance to assigned areas.

Knowledge of financial reporting, audit support, ACFR schedules, year-end close, and accounting documentation.
Skills

Ability to prepare and review complex journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, analyses, and financial reports.

Ability to read and interpret local, state, and federal grant requirements, agreements, contracts, statutes, and financial reporting guidance.

Ability to analyze and account for complex revenue sources, rebates, abatements, agreements, grants, and other assigned financial activities.

Ability to communicate technical accounting concepts in a clear and helpful manner to non-financial staff.

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Ability to use ERP systems, reporting tools, financial software, and technology to support accurate and efficient accounting operations.
