Description of work to perform:
- Troubleshoot, program, modify, and maintain PLC-based machine control systems.
- Support Allen-Bradley SLC 500, MicroLogix, CompactLogix, and ControlLogix platforms.
- Support AutomationDirect PLC platforms, including DL06 and related systems.
- Diagnose PLC processor, communication, I/O, program, and application faults.
- Perform PLC program uploads, downloads, backups, comparisons, and controlled revisions.
- Develop and modify ladder logic, function blocks, sequences, timers, counters, interlocks, alarms, and machine permissives.
- Maintain accurate backups and revision histories for all PLC and HMI programs.
- Document programming changes and obtain proper approval before placing changes into production.
- Develop, modify, and troubleshoot HMI screens and operator interfaces.
- Improve machine alarms, fault messages, operator prompts, recipes, and status displays.
- Ensure operators receive clear information when a machine faults or requires adjustment.
- Support recipe-based machine setups for different cable products, reels, speeds, lays, tensions, and process requirements.
- Work with Operations and Engineering to reduce setup time and improve ease of operation.
- Troubleshoot and configure AC drives, DC drives, servo drives, motors, and motor-control circuits.
- Set up and adjust VFD parameters, speed references, acceleration and deceleration, torque limits, minimum and maximum speed, and fault protection.
- Support analog control signals, including 0–10 VDC and 4–20 mA inputs and outputs.
- Diagnose motor, encoder, tachometer, resolver, feedback, and speed-control issues.
- Support dancer-controlled take-ups, payoffs, traverses, capstans, cablers, twinners, braiders, extrusion lines, and packaging equipment.
- Assist with motion-control applications requiring coordinated speed, position, tension, traverse, or synchronization.
- Troubleshoot industrial communication systems and device connectivity.
- Support Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, DH-485, Modbus, serial communication, Profibus, and other industrial protocols as applicable.
- Configure IP addresses, communication cards, switches, gateways, and networked automation devices.
- Work with IT personnel to maintain appropriate separation and security between industrial-control networks and business networks.
- Help establish secure methods for equipment backups, remote support, and authorized access.
Skills and requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical certificate, associate degree, or equivalent military or industrial training in automation, electrical technology, instrumentation, mechatronics, or a related field.
- Three or more years of hands-on industrial automation, controls, or electrical troubleshooting experience.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and modifying PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret ladder logic, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel drawings, and equipment manuals.
- Experience with VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, motor controls, and industrial instrumentation.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, and work around production equipment.
- Ability to work from ladders or elevated platforms when properly protected.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work inside or near electrical-control panels while following applicable safety procedures.
- Ability to respond to equipment problems outside normal working hours when necessary.
Wages are dependent on experience.
