Responsibilities Include:

Prepares and dispenses medications ordered by physicians

Monitors resident medication usage for the appropriateness of therapy as well as the potential for adverse reactions

Consults with physicians to modify medication therapy as needed

Furnishes information concerning medications to physicians, nurses and other health care professionals

Enters new medication information into the pharmacy information system

Oversees the use of automated dispensing technology and the preparation of sterile IV prescriptions

Checks prescriptions filled by Pharmacy Technicians for accuracy

Counsels residents, inpatients and outpatients as needed

Ensures medication rooms on the nursing units are properly secured and medication is dispensed appropriately

Inspects medication rooms on the nursing units on a monthly basis to ensure proper sanitary conditions, proper storage, drug expiration dates, inventory, and approval of contents

Consults physicians on questionable orders or dosages

Inventories pharmaceutical supplies; checks incoming drugs to put in stock and maintains drugs in good order

Recommends hires and promotions, directs and evaluates employment decisions for all assigned positions
Requirements Include:
Possession of a PharmD degree or graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy
One year of experience as a licensed pharmacist
Possession of a valid Illinois Pharmacist License
A pre-employment background check is required.
A post offer physical is required.
