Overview
East Houston Medical Center is seeking compassionate, dependable Licensed Vocational Nurses to join our nursing team. We are hiring for both day and evening shifts, in full-time and PRN capacities, across our Medical-Surgical and support units.
As an LVN with us, you will provide direct, hands-on patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, physician, or advanced practice provider. You will be a steady presence at the bedside — administering medications, monitoring patients, keeping accurate records, and alerting the care team the moment a patient's condition changes. This is a role for a nurse who is organized, communicates clearly, and takes real pride in patient comfort and safety.

Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care within the LVN scope of practice to assigned patients, under the supervision of an RN, APRN, or physician.
- Administer medications and treatments as ordered, including oral, topical, subcutaneous, and intramuscular routes, and document accurately and on time.
- Measure, record, and monitor vital signs; recognize and promptly report changes in a patient's condition or behavior to the supervising RN.
- Perform wound care and dressing changes, ostomy care, catheter care, and specimen collection as ordered.
- Initiate and maintain IV infusions where trained and permitted, and monitor IV sites per facility policy.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, feeding, mobility, and toileting, with dignity and respect.
- Use the SBAR method (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) to communicate patient status clearly during physician calls and shift handoff.
- Contribute to the nursing process by assisting with data collection and helping the RN carry out and evaluate the plan of care.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR), including medication administration and patient care notes.
- Delegate to and help oversee Certified Nurse Assistants (CNAs) and other support staff as directed, checking the quality of care provided.
- Reinforce patient and family education on medications, wound care, and discharge instructions, within scope and as directed by the RN.
- Follow all infection control, aseptic technique, fall prevention, and patient safety protocols.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all facility policies and Texas Board of Nursing standards of practice.
- Assist with orientation of new staff and make regular rounds on assigned patients.
- Willingly assist with other duties when asked.
Qualifications
Required
- Graduate of an accredited vocational nursing program.
- Current, unencumbered Texas LVN license, or a valid compact (eNLC) multistate license, or a temporary permit from the Texas Board of Nursing pending full licensure.
- Current BLS certification (American Heart Association).
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work 8- or 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to safely lift, turn, and reposition patients.
- Must pass a background check and any required screenings.
Preferred
- Six months or more of prior LVN experience in an acute care hospital setting.
- IV certification.
- Experience with electronic health record systems.
- Prior Med-Surg, long-term care, or geriatric experience.

- Reliable attendance is a condition of employment. Our attendance policy is enforced, and repeated unexcused call-ins will result in termination.
- PRN staff are expected to pick up shifts consistently. PRN is not a standby role here — we schedule our PRNs regularly and expect availability.
- Teamwork is expected. Our units run on staff who support one another, and we hold up our end by staffing properly.
