We are seeking a Utility Locator to become an integral part of our team! A utility locator is responsible for identifying, tracking, and marking the precise underground location of customer plant before any excavation or construction work begins. The core objective of the role is to gather data needed to determine possible construction activities for plant relocation to prevent dangerous and costly accidents and ensure uninterrupted utility services.

Responsibilities:
- Site Investigation: Research utility history and location from customer provided maps, and interpret complex civil engineering blueprints, as-builts, and GIS maps.
- Field Detection: Use RTK, survey grade locators capable of pinpointing the exact paths and depths of buried lines.
- Utility Marking: Visually mark out the boundaries of underground facilities, stake ROW lines and customer utilities for possible relocation.
- Documentation: Log detailed records, download locator data, interpret results and process in several different ways for use by engineers, Cities and construction crews.
- Safety & Traffic Control: Establish safe work zones by using traffic control devices and maintaining a safe environment near active roadways and heavy equipment.
- Communicate with supervisor daily to turn in required paperwork.
- Adhere with OSHA safety and health rules
- Use proper PPE at all times and follow all procedures
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: GED/High School Diploma required; some vocational or technical coursework is a plus. Valid state driver’s license and clean driving record required.
- REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Strong ability to read and interpret complex utility maps, plat pages, engineering drawings.
- EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Hands-on experience or the ability to master electronic locating equipment, GPS mapping systems, Windows 11 and Microsoft Office products.
- COMMUNICATION: Excellent interpersonal skills to coordinate clearly with contractors, engineers, project managers, and the general public.
- SKILLS/ABILITIES: Manual dexterity, control precision.
- LEADRSHIP: Ability to lead a team and direct the work of others.
- ON-GOING TRAINING: Ability and desire to complete and continue education opportunities for industry certifications, new equipment, etc.
