Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and versatile Travel Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) to provide exceptional patient care in Iowa. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work across diverse healthcare settings, including hospitals, outpatient clinics, and community care facilities. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical background, excellent assessment skills, and the ability to adapt quickly to various environments. As a Travel RN in Labor & Delivery, you will be instrumental in supporting maternal and neonatal health, ensuring safety, comfort, and high-quality care for patients during one of the most critical times of their lives.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including vital signs, fetal monitoring, and physical examinations specific to labor and delivery.
- Administer medications and injections such as epidurals, antibiotics, and pain management therapies following strict aseptic techniques.
- Monitor fetal heart rates using cardiotocography (CT) and respond promptly to any signs of distress or complications.
- Assist with labor progression, including performing suturing if necessary during delivery or postpartum procedures.
- Manage emergency situations such as postpartum hemorrhage or fetal distress by implementing advanced obstetric protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and support staff to coordinate patient care.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner while maintaining compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families throughout labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
Requirements
- Licensure: Valid RN license or equivalent certification.
- Must have a minimum of 1 full recent year in Labor & delivery and 2 years as a RN
- Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required
- Cerner EMR experience required.
- Skills: Ability to deliver care utilizing the nursing process, including assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation; proficiency in basic and intermediate fetal monitoring.
- Patient Population: Experience caring for adolescent and adult females, neonates, and in labor, delivery, post-partum, nursery, and NICU settings.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with AWHONN staffing guidelines; ability to respond in low census situations and be available on-call if necessary.
- Equipment: Ability to operate fetal monitoring equipment.
- Legal/Background: Ability to pass background checks, drug screens, and criminal history verification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certifications: Triage experience; STABLE certification.
- Additional Skills: Multi-departmental flexibility (e.g., Pediatric Department or Acute care rescue).
- Experience in a similar Level 2 Nursery environment.
- Compliance with all required documentation, including health statements and background checks.

Pay: $2,319.60 - $2,345.52 per week
