Full-Time In Office Medical Scribe (not seasonal)
Are you a meticulous and dedicated professional seeking a dynamic role in the medical field? Join our team at a thriving Orthopedic Surgeon's office as a Full-Time Medical Scribe. This on-site position includes travel between McKinney and Prosper. We encourage college students to apply, but please note we are looking for someone who can commit to the schedule for at least a year, Monday - Friday 8-5.

General Summary: As a nonexempt Medical Scribe, you will play a vital role in our medical practice. Your primary responsibility will be transcribing dictated recordings or live sessions conducted by physicians and other healthcare professionals. Your work will contribute to the creation of essential medical reports, correspondence, and administrative documents, all of which become integral parts of patients' permanent records.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Accompany healthcare providers into patient rooms and transcribe their verbal notes.
- Record physician statements accurately into a personal computer/EHR.
- Edit transcriptions for grammar and clarity.
- Generate various documents, including discharge summaries, history and physical examination reports, operative reports, consultation reports, diagnostic imaging studies, progress notes, and referral letters.
- Submit transcribed documents to physicians and healthcare professionals for review, signature, or correction.
- Assist with clerical duties, including front desk and call center tasks, on days when the physician is out of the clinic.
- Perform other assigned duties, such as receiving patients, scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and handling mail.
Education:
- High school diploma.
- Completion of a one-year certificate program (Certified Medical Transcriptionist [CMT]) or a degree in Health Sciences is recommended but not required.
- On-the-job training is often available under the supervision of an experienced transcriptionist in a medical practice.
Experience:
- Minimum one year of medical transcription or clinical experience, preferably in a medical practice environment.
Other Requirements:
- Proficiency in medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
- Minimum typing speed of 60 words per minute.
Performance Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments.
- Ability to translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms using electronic and printed medical reference materials.
- Knowledge of medical record protocols and legal and ethical requirements related to patient information confidentiality.
Skills:
- Keen eye for spotting mistakes or inconsistencies in medical reports and the ability to correct them.
- Adherence to medical record style standards.
- Commitment to staying current with changes in the medical field.
Abilities:
- Capacity to comprehend and question patient assessment and treatment notes to ensure the highest quality care and prevent ineffective or harmful treatments.
- Dedication to staying updated on medical transcription equipment as technology evolves through continuous research and education.
- Effective communication with physicians and other healthcare professionals to address transcription questions and concerns.
Equipment Operated: Computer and EMR.
Work Environment: Comfortable office setting.
Mental/Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for up to 8 hours at a time while following physicians.
Hourly rate commensurate with experience.
