Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and detail-oriented Housekeeper to join our Environmental Services team. In a long-term mental health care setting, our housekeepers do much more than clean; they help create a safe, comforting, and therapeutic environment where our residents can feel secure and respected.
The ideal candidate possesses strong cleaning skills, a high level of empathy, and the patience required to work around individuals experiencing long-term mental health challenges. You will work closely with our clinical and support staff to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness and safety throughout our facility.
Key Responsibilities

Environmental Maintenance: Clean, sanitize, and deep-clean resident rooms, bathrooms, common areas, corridors, dining halls, and staff offices according to facility protocols and infection control standards.

Safety & Compliance: Responsibly handle, store, and dispose of cleaning chemicals and biohazardous materials in strict accordance with OSHA, MSDS, and state healthcare regulations. Ensure all cleaning carts and chemical supplies are securely locked and supervised at all times to maintain resident safety.

Resident Interaction: Maintain a warm, respectful, and non-judgmental demeanor when interacting with residents. Respect resident privacy and personal boundaries during room cleaning.

Waste Management: Empty trash, recycling, and hazardous waste containers safely and replace liners daily.

Floor & Surface Care: Sweep, mop, vacuum, and dust surfaces regularly. Report any structural damage, safety hazards, or maintenance needs to the EVS Supervisor immediately.

Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with nursing and psychiatric care teams to ensure minimal disruption to resident therapies and daily schedules.
Qualifications & Skills

Experience: Prior housekeeping or janitorial experience required; experience in a hospital, nursing home, or mental health facility is highly preferred.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Soft Skills: Exceptional patience, empathy, emotional resilience, and strong interpersonal skills.

Regulatory Readiness: Knowledge of infection control practices and healthcare sanitation procedures is a major asset.

Background Clearances: Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive criminal background check.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions

Ability to stand, walk, push, pull, and bend for extended periods (up to 8 hours per shift).

Ability to lift up to 35 pounds independently.

Exposure to hospital-grade cleaning chemicals, dust, and potentially infectious materials (protective equipment provided).

Working directly within a residential psychiatric care environment.
