PART-TIME CHEF ASSISTANT / COOK
Holy Cross Monastery in West Park, New York, is seeking a dependable, skilled, and motivated Chef Assistant / Cook to join our kitchen team.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys preparing wholesome meals in a peaceful and respectful environment. Unlike restaurant work, our kitchen serves a monastic community and retreat guests, offering a predictable schedule and a supportive atmosphere.
POSITION DETAILS
- Part-time position: 18–22 hours per week
- Opportunity for additional hours and expanded responsibilities
- Competitive pay: $23–$25 per hour, based on experience
- Housing/accommodation may be available for the right candidate

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in preparing lunch and supper meals
- Food preparation and cooking
- Kitchen organization and cleanliness
- Assist with food inventory and storage
- Follow food safety and sanitation standards
- Work cooperatively with monastery staff and volunteers
- Assist with baking and dessert preparation
- Prepare special desserts and baked goods for feast days, holidays, retreats, and special monastery celebrations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous kitchen, culinary, or cooking experience required
- Experience in baking and dessert preparation preferred
- Culinary training, certificate, or degree strongly preferred
- Reliable, punctual, and organized
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to lift and carry kitchen supplies as needed
- Appreciation for working in a peaceful monastery environment
