Position Overview
Client is based out in Logansport, IN and seeking a Behavioral Health Attendant to support adult and geriatric patients in a state-operated inpatient psychiatric hospital. The Behavioral Health Attendant will help maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment while assisting patients with treatment plans, daily living skills, behavioral management, and therapeutic activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain patient safety, security, and order within the facility.
- Monitor and document patients' behavior, condition, and activities.
- Escort patients to therapy, recreational activities, medical appointments, and other locations as needed.
- Assist with implementation of individual treatment plans.
- Use approved de-escalation, redirection, and behavioral intervention techniques.
- Assist with managing aggressive or disruptive behaviors while following facility procedures.
- Support patients with daily living skills, personal care, community living skills, and independent living activities.
- Assist with meals, classroom activities, bathroom routines, and general patient activities.
- Search patient rooms and belongings for prohibited items or contraband as required.
- Assist with occupational and recreational therapy programs.
- Help maintain patients' living areas, clothing, and personal supplies.
- Perform basic clerical duties such as scheduling, filing progress notes, ordering supplies, and answering unit telephones.
- Assist with medication-related duties under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including obtaining medications from the pharmacy and documenting administration as directed.
- Provide basic first aid and respond appropriately to emergencies, including CPR and Heimlich maneuver when necessary.
- Maintain professional communication and confidentiality when working with patients, families, and healthcare staff.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with basic clerical duties, including scheduling, filing, supply ordering, and telephone coverage.
- Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality.
- Ability to work with adult and geriatric populations.
- Ability to work effectively in a behavioral health environment and respond appropriately to challenging situations.
Preferred:
- CPR/First Aid certification.
- Indiana Medical Aide certification.
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) or similar de-escalation certification.
- Previous experience in behavioral health, residential treatment, psychiatric, corrections, or similar settings.

This position involves working with adult and geriatric psychiatric patients, including individuals who may display aggressive, disruptive, or challenging behaviors.
